There are 24 brand new, undiscovered levels, special to Nintendo 64, and the pixelation that plagued every other version, are of course, completely eliminated for this version.
The creatures and weapons have all been redesigned and look cooler than ever. Doom 64 is, without a doubt, the best looking Doom title ever. PC enthusiasts may get a chuckle out of this, claiming that theirs now is the superior version, and other critics may bicker (as they do) about this loss for other reasons, but Midway has high hopes for Id's infamous title. But other factors point to Midway's own hesitation, especially slowdown problems. Many factors also point to Nintendo's hesitation in providing 64DD or other linking equipment on a basis timely enough for Midway to still complete Doom 64 for release in March. A Midway representative said that Nintendo simply wouldn't provide the necessary equipment for multiplayer programming. But N64.com confirmed today that Midway has not, in fact, designed Doom 64 to include deathmatches of any sort, constraining the game to its first-person core.
